There used to be a tradition of the Tujia people in China that when someone who was very revered died, their casket was hauled up the side of the gorge and this is where it remained.
They believed that the higher the coffin, the better chance they had for a future life. Today, few of these remain and the tradition is no longer carried out.

We wondered how on earth they managed to get the heavy casket up the wall of the gorge. Our guide said he climbed up to one of them a few years back and he wondered the same thing.
